Distractions // Heather and Jessica

She could see that Heather was trying to be strong, pushing away the emotions that she had been showing just seconds away. Jess shrugged a bit, upping up her excitement factor,”Oh you know, just…collecting…” she looked around and grabbed a leaf from a low hanging tree, shoving it toward Heather,” Maple leaves!”

Jessica didn’t want to go through the whole process of how since the dance she had been drawn to weird places and to do weird things like frolic in the woods and spin around under the sun and listen to weird music from Asia, that was way too much for poor Heather to handle in her current condition.

“But enough about me!” she smiled, tossing the leaf behind her back as she pulled out her headphones with her free hand,”What are you doing? Oh! I heard you were a singer! I sing too!”

It wasn’t that Jess didn’t want to know what Heather was doing, it’s that she already did know and she did not want to sit here for hours waiting for Heather to spill her guts. She had an easier, sure-fire way to do it.

“We should sing together!”

Heather chuckled at the leaf, rolling her eyes a bit. As if. But whatever, it was still funny either way. Maybe her afternoon could shape up to be alright, if Jessica kept this up. She supposed it wasn’t even ‘keeping it up’, the dark haired girl was just happy and hyper, she always seemed to be.

A wide smile broke out on her face at the slightest mention of singing. Heather loved anything that had to do with music. And she hadn’t gotten to sing with anyone in so long.. She frowned slightly, then shook off the mood trying to force the bulk of itself back into her mind. No, not the time to think of her friends. She would just sing with Jessica.

“Honestly, I’d love to sing with you. I haven’t really sung with anyone since I got here, mostly just by myself,” she admitted. Drumming her fingers along her leg to keep up with her energy, she tapped out a small beat with them. Heather smiled again, keeping up the rhythm. If she had known just making music would make her this happy, she would’ve found someone to sing with a long time ago.

Jessica nodded her head quickly, already seeing the gray blob turning brighter. She offered her hand downward to Heather,” Perfect! Come on! There’s a music studio somewhere around here on campus, I’m pretty sure. I hear the Glee kinds practice in there sometimes.”

Jess wasn’t too sure about that. She hadn’t taken Music as an elective because she was afraid she wouldn’t be as talented as any of the other kids, but this wasn’t about talent this was about comfort. She hoped that maybe if she wasn’t talented it would further help Heather find comfort in her new home of SHH.

“Come on!” she smiled welcomingly, grabbing Heather’s arm and pulling her up to her feet,”We need to beat those stupid Glee kids!”

Laughing, Heather shook her head at the other girl. Oh god, those were pretty terrible. But it was funny, so who cared?...
